Private firm starts emptying Edinburgh bins
Edinburgh: A private firm has started emptying bins, collecting refuse and cleaning streets, the City of Edinburgh Council has confirmed.
The City of Edinburgh Council said a team of more than 20 private contract operatives began night shift working on Wednesday 29th July 2009.
Council refuse workers are currently taking part in an unofficial industrial dispute, and are being balloted over strike action.
Earlier this week, council staff who normally work in trade waste and recycling were redeployed to help clear the backlog of household waste which has resulted from the industrial action.
