Milk Deliveries create ‘unwitting’ recycling champions
People who receive a doorstep milk delivery may be unwitting recycling and reuse champions.
A household will return over 83kg of glass bottles per year for reuse or recycling for every daily pint of milk delivered. This is achieved almost without the consumer thinking about the process and just because it has become natural to wash and put out empties on the doorstep for collection.
Bottle tops if washed and recycled provide over 70g of aluminium foil per year for every daily pint of milk delivered. This is equivalent in weight to about 5 aluminium drinks cans.
Milk bottle tops can normally be recycled along with your food and drink cans – check your local council website for further information.
