Shropshire Residents are Recycling More Rubbish


Shropshire residents recycled nearly half of their household waste last year, Shropshire Council figures show.

They recycled or composted 47.3% during April 2008 to March 2009, compared to 43.5% the previous year.

The South Shropshire area had the largest amount with residents recycling 57.8% of their waste.

This meant that the quantity of household waste going straight to landfill.

Email reminders for recyling and refuse are available in the Shrewsbury and Telford areas at www.greenboxday.co.uk. The former Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council were the first council in the UK to offer this service to their residents in 2007.
