| DID YOU KNOW? Every year in the UK, we throw away over 28 million tonnes of rubbish from our homes. This weighs the same as three and a half million double-decker buses. A queue of buses that would go around the world one and a half times. |

Edinburgh Recycling & Garden Waste Collection Data Released by GreenBoxDay
We are delighted to announce that the multi-material and garden waste collection data for the City of Edinburgh Council is now available on the GreenBoxDay system. The City of Edinburgh Council operate a Blue and Red box system on alternate weeks for recyclables and a fortnightly brown wheeled bin collection for garden waste.
Over 112,000 Edinburgh residents benefit from the multi-material recycling collections and uder the scheme £1 is donated to the Save the Children charity for every tonne of materials collected.
At present, approximately 100,000 households in Edinburgh make use of the garden waste collection scheme, and during 2007, nearly 20,000 tonnes of green/garden waste were collected for composting. Collected garden waste is composted for use as a soil improver in landscaping. And in the summer of 2007, Edinburgh residents contributed to the golfing glory at Carnoustie thanks to garden waste collections. Twenty two tonnes of 'green spread' (a mixture of sand and compost) was spread on the course before the Open championship.
